Three Healthy and Easy Smoothies to Make at Home

three healthy and easy smoothies to make at home

I’m trying really hard this year to be healthier than I was last year. Smoothies are my jam and I really love these on-the-go smoothies and bowls for taking to work and when I’m out running around. My hang up is trying to make them at home. Whenever I try and make smoothies, they end up being too thick and just kind of gross. I decided to reach out and ask for help from Lindsay Kingdon. Lindsay is a local health food guru and a total rockstar in the kitchen. Her blog Seven Layer Charlotte is loaded with so much information on wellness, healthy recipes and entertaining—and lucky for me she lives down the street. A few weeks ago, she came over and showed me how to make three healthy and easy smoothies to make at home.

This green smoothie was my absolute favorite. This one is the Chocolate Banana Greens Smoothie and I could have this every single day. It’s loaded with so many amazing nutrients including the chocolate greens powder (see below). If you typically gravitate towards green smoothies like me, you will love this one. I plan on making this smoothie all week!

Chocolate Banana Greens:
-ice, about 1 cup
-1-2 frozen bananas (we use 2 frozen bananas for 2 adults and 2 kids)
-1 tbsp per person raw almond butter (any nut butter will work)
*If you can’t do nuts, try 1/2 an avocado instead
-1 serving chocolate collagen protein powder per person (Bulletproof brand or Primal Kitchen brand)
-1 serving chocolate greens powder (Amazing Grass brand)
-2 handfuls baby kale or baby spinach, organic
-unsweetened dairy-free milk (any kind of nut milk, coconut milk, gluten free oat milk)
-water as needed

True story. I had this in the fridge after Lindsay came over and my husband came home early from work and ate the whole thing. He asked me where I bought it and I told him that this delicious bowl was in fact created in our own kitchen. This bowl is so good and proof that you can easily make it at home.

Berry Vanilla Greens Avocado:

-1.5-2 cups frozen mixed berries (organic if possible)
-1 serving vanilla collagen protein powder per person (Bulletproof brand or Primal Kitchen brand)
-1/2 avocado
-unsweetened dairy-free milk (any kind of nut milk, coconut milk, gluten free oat milk)
-2 handfuls baby spinach, organic
-water as needed
-optional: Amazing Grass berry greens powder
**Add sliced bananas, blueberries, raspberries, unsweetened coconut chips, pecans and maca powder on top.

Healthy golden smoothie

The last smoothie Lindsey whipped up was also delicious. I love this one so much because it’s nothing I would normally try to make at home. If you aren’t a big green smoothie person, I bet you would love this one. My favorite part about this smoothie is all the ginger and turmeric. Yum.

Golden Smoothie:
-1 cup ice
-1-1.5 cups frozen, uncooked cauliflower rice
-1 cup frozen mango (we used pineapple, but mango gives better flavor)
-1 inch fresh turmeric, peel removed
-1 inch fresh ginger, peel removed
-1 cup dairy free milk (coconut is a great choice for this smoothie)
-water as needed (probably about 1/2-1 cup
-1 serving vanilla collagen protein powder per person (Bulletproof brand or Primal Kitchen brand)

Tips for Making Smoothies at Home:
-Buy a Vitamix. I never had one until this smoothie post and was converted. They blend so much better and I’m really glad I finally invested in one. You can buy refurbished ones (as seen above) that are less expensive and perfect for making smoothies. I own this exact Vitamix and we love it so far.

I cannot thank Lindsay enough for helping me out with this. Be sure to read her smoothie post too. While you are bookmarking all her amazing healthy recipes, be sure to check out her new podcasts too! I hope that these three smoothie recipes help make your life a little bit easier and healthier this year.
